Option for Juveniles with Class C misdemeanor offenses:
Juvenile Garden
Sugar Land initiated the Juvenile Garden program in 2000, in order to engender
a sense of ownership and responsibility within these juveniles as well as offering
a non-payment alternative for Class C misdemeanor charges. This "hands-on"
program allows the juvenile to have the opportunity to work in an award-winning
garden. Since the onset of this program, juveniles have gained a chance to
cultivate crops such as tomatoes, herbs, strawberries, etc. All the involved parties; i.e., the young offender, the parents, and the judge, find the Juvenile Garden program to offer a significant chance for the juvenile to learn not only about gardening, but themselves.
